Dr. Meade is the Eileen M. Foell Professor of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Molecular and Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Physiology, and Radiology at Northwestern University. He pioneered the use of bioactivated MR contrast agents for gene expression and cell patterning by MRI, and founded three companies—Clinical Micro Sensors, Metaprobe and Ohmx—that are developing hand-held detection devices for protein and DNA detection and bioactivated MR contrast agents, and holds more than 50 U.S. patents. Dr. Meade's laboratory focuses on inorganic coordination chemistry for the study of molecular imaging of in vivo gene expression and intracellular messengers, transition metal enzyme inhibitors, and electronic biosensors. The design, synthesis and physical properties of transition metal and lanthanide coordination complexes are the foundation of their research.  Dr. Meade was elected president of the Society of Molecular Imaging (2005), received the FMC Award - Princeton University (2004), Elkin Distinguished Investigators Cancer Lecturer, Emory University (2003), and Neuroscience Award Lecture, Society for Neuro-Oncology (November 2002).
